You are joking? How much! That's what a dealer would want. You're looking
at £2800 at the most from a private buyer and £2200 as a trade-in. It's not
a desirable model as it's the 8v engine which is slow, and even worse with
an automatic gearbox. If it was a 16v model then you would get more, the
same for a manual.

Paul,
I am not joking.
I am helping a friend who is a car dealer to advertise.
The price is lower than those quoted in those big second hand car centres.
The advantage of 8v engine is that the cam belt doesn't need change as often
as 16v.
You are too pessimistic.

No, he is a realist, dont get me wrong i like Astra's, but a 4 year old
Auto 8v version is worth at tops £2900 in good condition. If you doubt
the 'experts' here check with www.parkers.co.uk and see what they say.

In parkers' guide, we found this:

Vauxhall Astra Hatchback
1.6i Envoy 3d Auto
1999/T, 33733 miles, Barolo Red
Hylton Wolverhampton £3,995
97 miles

How could 2002/52 car with 5 door hatchback getting less than this one?!

Pardon my curiosity, but why is the auto less valuable than the manual?
(Your and Paul's posts seem to say this.) Something about this particular
car or model?

A 1.6 8v Astra with an auto box will be slower than a tractor.

Wot he says, plus the majority of drives here in the UK drive manuals, for
some reason Auto's always sell for less, mind you i have had Auto's for the
last 10 years, the smallest being a 2.7l the biggest a 4.0l Jag, a 1600cc
Auto 'might' be a nifty fifty from the lights.
