That's worth £850 and not a penny more.

That looks a *very* good buy to me for £850. Nice clean motor, 7 years old,
reasonable mileage, and in good condition. Shame I don't need one, really.

I regularly get offered late Escorts by a friend in a Ford main agents for
obscenely small amounts of money, something like the one above would be no
more than £650-700 in the trade.

It'd retail for around £1600, but that's to the kind of muppet who buys a 7
year old Escort on finance, £2450 for a private sale is just ridiculous.

If the valuations put on it by the other posters here are anywhere
near correct you'll make a very good car salesman. Keep it up!

Indeed.

Just shows that there's still plenty of people out there who don't have a
clue what to pay for a car. If they'd have had any sense they'd have bought
an infinately preferable Focus Estate for less money.

Still, anyone want to buy £600 worth of Merc 190E for £10k?

It's funny how, when we pull someone up on their price on here, it
*always* sells a few days later for near enough the asking price....

But I'm a cynical old git these days.

Not only that, but I'd just like to say that, IMHFO, there's nothing
wrong with selling some old shed for 2 or 3 times its "book" value.

The value of an item is not what someone else values it at. Its value
is what it sells for. And I've certainly sold some old sheds for way
more than *I* would have paid for them. But that's not the point.

The value of anything is what someone is willing to actually pay for
it. (period/full stop, depending upon your big pond left or right mind
set.)

It allegedly happens far too often for it to be down to numpty buyers.

I think it's more likely to be people coming back trying to prove us all
wrong.

I don't know *anyone* who would pay £2k for an Escort.

Yeah, but they probably gave a massively overinflated p/x price on the car
being traded in against it, thus keeping everyone happy.....

I'd ask that much for it, mind you the phone would not ring
and i'd be sat there until i die.

Prolly worth £1100 tops if you can find someone who actually
wants it.
